5 Things to Think About Before a Kitchen Renovation
So, you’ve made the big decision – you’re ready to bring your kitchen back to life!
It’s time to revive the hub of your home and make it somewhere you all want to spend time as a family, perhaps entertaining guests, or cooking up a storm… well, we’re happy to hear it, but before we grab the tools and start designing your dream kitchen, there are a few things you need to consider.
At Kubo Kitchens, we’re all about giving you the information you need to make the best decisions that work for you – so, in this blog post, we’ll be giving you the 5 top things to think about before you push forwards with your plan for a kitchen renovation (and trust us, you don’t want to just dive in and see what happens).
Making any big changes to your home requires careful consideration, so here are 5 things you need to think about before giving your kitchen a refresh:
- Think about your investment wisely (consider your budget)
Making a significant change to your home takes a considerable investment, so it’s super important to think about what – not only will this allow you to stick to a budget you’re happy with, but it could also help you figure out what your investment looks like in terms of design.
For us at Kubo Kitchens, we consider ourselves ‘investment-first but design-led’ which means one of the first things we do is help you work out what your level of investment could look like and how to distribute it to land on the perfect kitchen that works for you!
- The ‘Must-haves’, ‘would be nice’ and ‘don’t wants’
Prioritising your wants and desires for your new kitchen space is as important to us as it is to you, and surprisingly your ‘don’t wants’ are just as important as your ‘must-haves’ for us. To design a kitchen that works for you in both style and functionality, we have to know what you are after.
Perhaps you’re totally set on having an island with a breakfast bar or you’re completely against the idea of an American-style fridge freezer – the more we know, the better we’ll be able to bring your dream to life!
- Layout is everything!
Layout plays a HUGE part in kitchen design – it’s one of the most functional rooms in your home so it’s important to create a space that looks amazing and works for you. Start by thinking about what doesn’t work in your current kitchen – are the cupboards in annoying places? Perhaps you really need more worktop space?
When it comes to designing a layout, we think of EVERYTHING at Kubo; got a main chef in the house? we want to know how tall they are and whether they’re left-handed so we can create the ideal cooking space for them. Perhaps you have a multi-generational family and need a lower worktop for granny – these are all things we consider at Kubo Kitchens. We’re designing a space for you, which means offering you bespoke designs that perhaps you’ve never thought of but that make life easy!
- Project timing
This is a big one! It’s really important to speak to the right people to figure out exactly how long a project might take so you can fit it in at a time that works for you – perhaps over the school holidays for example. We always make sure give our clients a detailed schedule of what is going to happen on each day (we know that can be a pretty rare commitment when it comes to trades) – but we know how valuable it can be!
Can’t find a perfect time to give up your kitchen? You don’t have to with the Kubo Kub! Our specially designed, customizable, portable kitchen mean you don’t have to give up cooking home meals or washing up while your project is underway.
All you need is a little bit of space to host our Kubo Kub and you’ll have a working oven and hob, worktop space, a storage unit, a sink, and NOW a Quooker Boiling Water Tap – so you don’t even need to worry about the kettle! Conveniently this tap provides normal hot water for washing up too!
- Find the right team!
We know it takes a lot of trust to put such a big project in someone’s hands, so it really is worth taking the time to find the right team for you.
At Kubo Kitchens, we offer a free 30-minute initial design consultation so we can discuss your dream kitchen, your budget, and a load of other things so you can figure out if we’re your team.
